2013 World Green Car of the Year nominations named

Any fleet manager interested in fuel efficient vehicles may be interested to learn that the five cars nominated for the 2013 World Green Car of the Year have been announced ahead of the official ceremony in March.

The cars in the running for this prestigious award are the Renault Zoe, the smart Electric Drive, the Tesla Model S, the Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid and the Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid Diesel.

Five experts in environmentally friendly technology were given the task of deciding on the nominations, each appointed by the World Car Awards Steering Committee.

66 automotive experts from around the world - including Australia's Joshua Dowling and Paul Gover - will now be given the task of voting on the winner during the second round of deliberations in February.

While most of these cars are not yet commercially available in Australia, the list does serve as an indication as to which brands are at the forefront of fuel efficient green cars.

Investing in the procurement of green cars for your fleet can be a fantastic way to cut back on fuel consumption and reduce overall expenses, so it is definitely a worthwhile consideration.

Another great way to reduce overall petrol costs is by utilising fleet management software which can provide easy to understand and comprehensive information modules on various aspects of your company vehicle fleet.

With the fuel management module, it is possible to evaluate and keep track of all fuel costs in a simple and streamlined manner.

This can allow you to determine where inefficiencies are presenting themselves - through a vehicle that is in poor running condition or a particular driver who is operating their car in an inefficient way.

The official World Car of the Year awards - including the Green Car of the Year award - will be presented at a press conference hosted by the New York International Auto Show and the Bridgestone Corporation on March 28.
