AfMA announces 2013 fleet winners

The Australian Fleet Management Association (AfMA) recently announced the winners of its 2013 fleet management awards - and an organisation affiliated with Smartfleet is up there among the best.

The AfMA selected their top picks for the Fleet Safety, Fleet Environment and Fleet Manager of the Year Awards, to recognise those who excelled in the field of fleet management in Australia over the past year.

Telecommunications and ICT company Visionstream Pty Ltd., supported by Smartfleet, claimed the 2013 AfMA Fleet Safety Award for its innovative systems approach aimed at maintaining the safety of its 700-plus fleet vehicles, according to a September 13 media release.

Some of the features of its approach included a Driver Fatigue Management System, which was capable of keeping track of extensively-travelled staff to "improve fatigue management policy".

Visionstream also limited its vehicle procurement policy to those with the maximum five star ANCAP rating, and its fleet management team led an independent study on the effects of bullbars and Roll Over Protection Structure (ROPS) on overall vehicle safety.

To complement its industry-leading standards in safety, Visionstream also played its part in conserving the environment through the use of vehicles with Euro 5 engines that cut down on fuel consumption and emissions.

Meanwhile, the Tasmania Department of Health and Human Services proved that the public service sector is also following fleet management best practices by winning the 2013 AfMA Fleet Environment Award.

The Department outlined four clear strategies to bring down emission levels, including an organisation-wide switch to green cars and using GPS systems to track low-use vehicles and reduce fleet size where necessary.

The success of these companies was only possible through their implementation of an effective fleet management program.
