Help secure our automotive future

Key government, industry and union members met in Melbourne on June 7 to discuss where Australia's automotive sector is heading.

Representatives from Ford, Holden and Toyota were present, as were representatives from the Australian, Victorian and South Australian governments.

The $76 million package, which the government has put together in response to Ford's announcement that they would stop manufacturing vehicles locally in October 2016, was discussed and welcomed by all in attendance.

Ford's decision to contribute $10 million to Industry and Innovation Funds was also acknowledged.

It was concluded at the meeting that everyone in Australia has a role to play in securing the future of this important industry.

Through community involvement and cooperation, as well as the financial support mentioned above, we can ensure Australia is a world leader when it comes to vehicle production and innovation.
