Road safety message is still not getting through, says NSW police

Operating a vehicle is, by its very nature, always going to involve some element of risk.

This is because while the drivers in your fleet might be fully educated and well trained in vehicle safety, it is still impossible to predict the actions of other drivers on the road.

A recent press release issued by the New South Wales police highlighted this fact, with a leading officer expressing disappointment at the amount of incidents being caused by intoxicated drivers.

"It’s frustrating to us that our repeated messages do not seem to be getting through to motorists," said NSW police Superintendent Stuart Smith (July 23).

"To date this year we have lost 215 people in 198 crashes across the state and yet drivers continue to speed or continue to drive while under the influence of alcohol and drugs."

The best thing fleet managers can do to help prevent future road incidents is remind their drivers of safe driving practices and to always be vigilant on the roads.

Another good step to take is to utilise a fleet management program which also offers roadside assistance, so that if your drivers do get into an accident they can be assured that help is available 24/7.

While the safety and wellbeing of your drivers should always be a priority, it is also important to ensure that you get vehicles back on the road as soon as possible following an accident.

This is another area where fleet management software can help, by offering accident management services which can assist in compiling insurance documents and recording accident details.
