Sydney and Melbourne vehicle accident hotspots identified

If you are an Australian fleet manager, you may be interested in a new report set to be released by AAMI into the most accident-prone locations in the country.

The forthcoming 2012 AAMI Crash Index was compiled via assessment of almost 275,000 accident claims over the period of July 2011 to June 2012.

AAMI has already published some of the most interesting results, including the top five accident hot spots for both Sydney and Melbourne.

When it comes to the NSW capital, the Hume Highway in Liverpool is rated as the most likely place for drivers to crash, followed by Pennant Hills Road in Pennant Hills and Princes Highway in Rockdale.

In Melbourne, drivers are best to avoid Springvale Road in Glen Waverley as this is the location where crashes occur most often. The next most dangerous driving locations are Plenty Road in Bundoora and Bell Street in Preston.

The report highlights the value of fleet management software that offers accident management and roadside assistance, especially if your vehicles often operate in the aforementioned areas.

AAMI has also identified the most likely causes of a crash in Australia, with the most common contributing factors cited by drivers after an accident being (not surprisingly) other drivers.

Carelessness and distraction/loss of concentration were also frequently presented as reasons for an accident occurring.
