Three cars receive five star ANCAP safety ratings

Any fleet manager considering vehicle procurement in the near future may be interested to learn that the Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has awarded three new models with five star safety ratings.

The Mitsubishi Mirage, Ford Kuga and Volkswagen Beetle all received the maximum score, which is determined following rigorous crash testing and safety technology evaluation.

ANCAP chairman Lauchlan McIntosh says that the ANCAP has been particularly encouraged to see that nearly 70 per cent of all new cars sold during the month of January had a maximum five star ANCAP rating.

"ANCAP wants to see this positive trend continue as we raise the bar for all safety ratings year on year," said Mr McIntosh in a statement released February 11.

"More five star cars on the market means safer drivers, occupants and pedestrians."

The ANCAP recommends that those looking to purchase a new car only consider investing in vehicles with a five star safety rating, as these are the automobiles most likely to protect drivers and occupants during a crash scenario.

For this reason, Australian fleet managers who are planning vehicle procurement should definitely take the time to review and understand the various safety ratings of the models which are under consideration.

That way, you can ensure that your drivers will be able to operate their vehicles with 24/7 peace of mind, knowing that their safety and wellbeing has been considered.

Furthermore, because a car with a five star ANCAP safety rating contains advanced technology designed to minimise the risk of an accident occurring, there is a reduced chance that your organisation will have to pay for costly repairs or maintenance further down the road.

Fleet services can assist with the process of vehicle procurement by determining the whole of life cost of each individual vehicle, whilst also securing discounts through creating a competitive tendering environment, so this is something else that fleet managers should keep in mind.
