Fleet consolidation drives $200K per annum cost savings at Uniting Care Queensland
UnitingCare Queensland is one of the largest health and community services organisations in Queensland with 15,000 employees and over 8,000 volunteers. The work of UnitingCare Queensland is delivered through its service groups, UnitingCare Community, UnitingCare Health, and Blue Care.
Mark Stephens is an accomplished leader in the business. He specialises in fleet and procurement management, and was largely responsible for the successful consolidation of UnitingCare’s car fleet under one centralised system. For this achievement, he was awarded ‘Fleet Manager of the Year’ in 2012 by The Australasian Fleet Management Association (AFMA).
Mark says: “In order to create a centralised fleet management system, reliable data is critical. One of the first challenges to overcome was the data inaccuracies and inconsistencies across the group. The other aspect was the sheer amount of change management involved at all levels, from management through to the individual service areas. In addition, we had to consider one of our key drivers for change, which was also to create an extremely safe and legally compliant fleet for the organisation.”
Mark says: “Smartfleet has been our fleet solution provider since 2008. We’ve really been partners in developing and co-creating solutions. Smartfleet’s customisable reporting solutions have been good for cost management and efficiency purposes. Fuel usage reports help us drive efficiency in our vehicle fleet.”
Mark says: “Thanks to Smartfleet, we’re saving more than $200K a year. This has been accomplished through the renegotiation of lease agreements, the reduction of more than 500 maintenance invoices to accounts payable and by reducing toll photo infringements from 160 to 40 per month.
Using the Smartfleet system, data is collected on every aspect of the fleet vehicles including fuel use, kilometres travelled and maintenance. Automated analysis and a suite of reports from the system enables the fleet management team to monitor and manage the vehicles which in the long term will reduce the financial risk, ensure legislative compliance and reduce the risk of driver incidents.
